EMA FELLOWSHIP
EMA Fellowship is the highest level of the EMA membership structure and as such it is foreseen for those whom are awarded this status to champion and drive forward the energy management agenda, sector and profession.
EMA Fellows are EMA Members who have made a significant contribution to the industry and typically lead energy management teams and the development of energy and/or energy consumption strategy to drive energy efficient and progressive business performance.
The EMA Fellowship is subject to approval by the EMA Board of Directors and applicants who wish to have their applications presented to the Board of Directors must fulfil the below criteria and submit detailed, objective and relevant evidence in the application form. Detailed guidance for each criteria is available.
Criteria 1: Minimum 8 years of work experience in the energy management industry
Criteria 2: Demonstrate significant leadership or senior influence, through budget responsibility or line management
Criteria 3: Significant outcomes/contributions to the applicant's organisation and/or energy management industry
Criteria 4: Summary Report from an EMA Professional Interview
Criteria 5: Minimum 2 years of Full EMA Membership (EMA Member level)
Criteria 6: References from two energy management professionals
Once all evidence is received, applicants will be informed of the date their application will be considered by the EMA Board of Directors. Following the set date, a decision will be shared with the applicant in writing.
Should you have any questions regarding the EMA Fellowship process, please send an enquiry to [email protected].
To enable applicants to submit detailed, objective and relevant evidence, the following guidance is offered:
CRITERIA 1: Minimum 8 years of work experience in the energy management industry
Applicants must include an up-to-date CV which covers:
- a summary of the career history including an outline of responsibilities and achievements for each role held and the dates the positions were held.
- for the current role, please add a description of the organisation and its objectives.
CRITERIA 2: Demonstrate significant leadership or senior influence, through budget responsibility or line management
Applicants must provide:
- an organisation chart of the current employment which clearly shows the position within the organisation and any direct reports that the applicant has.
- evidence of regularly taking decisions or making judgement in either managerial, financial or technical fields or a combination of these. For those who offer energy management on consultancy basis, it is the nature of the work that they do and the level at which they interact with clients which needs to be evidenced.
- evidence of an influence over a policy or strategy adopted by the employer or clients.
- evidence of the applicant taking the initiative and others following their lead which resulted in successful adoption of proposed activities.
- evidence of the applicant’s involvement in setting and managing a substantial budget, whether for a department or a project. (This should be in a context where real management is required, rather than just monitoring the budget, e.g. managing a departmental budget consisting of principally staff costs would not alone meet the requirements and nor would managing a large project budget where it is essentially buying catalogue items of known cost with no requirement to manage risk.)
CRITERIA 3: Significant outcomes/contributions to the applicant's organisation and/or energy management industry
Please provide detailed evidence of an implemented strategy / plan / project which was delivered by the applicant personally or under their leadership (please specify the role) where proven reduction in energy or carbon can be demonstrated (projected savings will not be sufficient to fulfil this criteria). It is suggested that a detailed technical case study or project overview which demonstrates a range of the applicant’s skills and responsibilities is submitted to fulfil these criteria. Further guidance for project overview is available upon request.
CRITERIA 4: Summary Report from an EMA Professional Interview
Applicants are required to undertake the Knowledge and Skills’ Gap Analysis Interview and submit the feedback form as part of their Fellowship application.
The Interview takes approximately 60-90 minutes and applicants’ skills, knowledge and experiences are assessed in the core energy management competencies (Technical and Operational; Energy Assessments, Measurements and Verification; Behavioural Change and Motivation; Regulatory & Legal Compliance and Carbon Management; Energy Management Strategy / Plan; Waste Management; Procurement; Transport; Water Management; Information Technology, Project Management; Financial Management / Budgeting; Leadership/Managerial) by two experienced energy managers and assessors. Over the phone interview dates are set up on request for a fee of £300+VAT.
CRITERIA 5: Minimum 2 years of Full EMA Membership (EMA Member level)
Applicants must hold a Full Member (EMA Member) status for no less than 2 years. Furthermore, they must also demonstrate active membership with at least 3 recent examples of activities that were undertaken as part of the EMA membership, in line with the EMA objectives, to enable knowledge exchange in energy management and associated fields.
CRITERIA 6: References from two energy management professionals
Applicants must provide two written references from other energy management professionals. The contactable referees must have relevance to the energy management industry and cannot be direct family members or clients.
Referees may be contacted for further information and/or clarification. Their contact details will be processed in line with the EMA Privacy Policy and it is understood that by their agreement to provide references to the applicant they also agree to the use of their data in line with the above policy. Referees must respond to any queries within 14 days or their reference will be considered invalid.
